Aavesham – A High Octane Entertainer in Mollywood! New Malayalam Movie review 2024

Aavesham is a Malayalam Action-Comedy Film directed by Jithu Madhavan released on 11th April 2024. The film’s major cast includes Fahad Fasil, Mithun Jai Shankar, Hipszter, Roshan Shanavas, Sajin Gopu, and Mansoor Ali Khan. Expectations soared high, when Fahad Fasil, Anwar Rasheed (Producer), and Jithu Madhavan joined hands on a project, and it indeed proved to be a standout in the industry. The film has got tremendous positive responses and has reportedly collected more than 4 crores from India in the first day itself.

Aavesham is the story of three engineering students who seeks the help of a local gangster named Ranga to retaliate against seniors who had assaulted them, leading to a series of both humorous and chilling events. Even though the plot is not a great one, the main positive of the film is the remarkable perfomances itself, which keeps the movie engaging with Jithu’s story.

The film, as a whole is a complete one man show by Fahad in a never seen avatar, and without any doubt, it is one of the career best performance from him. Ranga, Fahad’s character, is a quirky gangster who enjoys being admired by all, yet he also exhibits a terrifyingly cruel side. Despite being debutants on the big screen, Mithun, Hipszter, and Roshan showcased remarkable acting skills. Sajin Gopu’s performance was also highly entertaining. All of them were highly energetic and had a great comedic timing throughout the film.

After the sensational hit ‘Romancham’, Jithu Madhavan in his second directional venture, delivered another wonderful entertainer to the industry. Jithu can be seen quite consistent with the style of humour that he used in both his films, which elevates a heartly laughter among all of the audience. Each and every humour elements in the story, created a laughter riot in the theatres.

The Music Director, Sushin Shyam, after Manjummel Boys, again surprises us with brilliant musical works that creates a festive mood for the audience. The action choreography, led by Chethan Dsouza, deserves significant praise with each fight sequence surpassing the last. Sameer Thahir’s cinematography and Vivek Harshan’s editing also was exceptional. The from beginning to end, the film managed to keep the audience engaged and excited.

Overall, Aavesham is an alluring, highly engaging and truly a celebrative feast for action movie lovers and is definitely a must watch in theatres. Aavesham is surely an Adrenaline rush experience, brimming with action and humour.

Aadu Jeevitham – The Goat Life, is a Malayalam film directed by Blessy released on 28th March, 2024. During this peaking era of Mollywood, this movie definitely adds another great success to the industry. The movie’s cast consists of Prithviraj in the lead role with Amala Paul, Gokul, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Talib al Balushi etc. It was one of the most awaited Films from the industry, and it certainly lived up to expectations. The film has got positive responses whole over and also has collected a enormous sum of more than 100 crores world wide in just 9 days becoming the fastest mollywood movie to reach the 100 CR milestone.

Aadu Jeevitham is the story of Najeeb, a lower middle class person from kerala, dreams of getting a job in the gulf countries, but turns up into forced slavery there. The movie is an adaptation of a Novel by Benyamin with the same title, which is based on real incidents. The movie is highly emotional with many touching scenes. Despite the challenges of condensing the entire novel into a film, Blessy has unquestionably crafted a masterpiece, leading to rumors of potential Oscar nominations. Prithviraj has once again solidified his position in the industry with a stellar performance and is also being rumoured for many awards. His dedication for the film can be seen clearly in the movie. Gokul and Talib al Balushi also delivers impressive performances in the movie.

The director and crew worked on Aadu Jeevitham for nearly 16 years, and it ended up being a really amazing masterpiece. All technical aspects of the movie including the editing, background scores, cinematography etc feels so perfect. Several scene-to-scene transitions in the movie are top notch. AR Rahman with the BGMs has also put forward a career best performance. The frames by Sunil KS(DOP) were also outstanding and commendable. The film has a duration about 3 hrs, having a possible lag which is common to such movie, but it still manages to keep the audience quite engaged.

The director’s success lies in their ability to evoke such strong emotions in the audience, making them feel the character’s pain, helplessness, and solitude as if it were their own. Overall Aadujeevitham is an Emotionally connecting, technically brilliant film by Blessy and deserves a theatre watch. The film is already been considered as the best survival thriller of the industry. As it is said in the movie, “The Life we have not experienced is just a Fable to us”.

96th Academy Awards Announced – Oppenheimer Sweeps Oscars!! Full List of Winners 2024

The 96th edition of the Academy Awards took place at the renowned Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, on 10th of March 2024, with Jimmy Kimmel returning as the host for the event. Cilian Murphy (Oppenheimer) and Emma Stone (Poor Things) wins the Academy Award for Best Actor and Actress in a leading role respectively. The renowned Christopher Nolan, wins the Best Director award for Oppenheimer. The Academy award for Best Picture was also bagged by Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer, was indeed a masterpiece by Nolan, led to the first Oscars for three legends of the Industry: Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., and Christopher Nolan himself.

Oscars 2024 was undoubtedly a complete ‘Oppenheimer’ show, as the fil won 7 out of its 13 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. Other winnings of the film include Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Score, Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing. While there was talks of a competition between Barbie and Oppenheimer, with both receiving nominations in eight and thirteen categories respectively, it ultimately became clear that it was solely Oppenheimer’s night, not a blend of the two as “Barbenheimer”. Poor things also won 4 oscars, including the Best Actress in a leading Role.

Manjummel Boys – A Mollywood Magnificence! New Movie Review 2024!

Manjummel Boys is a Malayalam film directed by Chidambaram released on 22nd February 2024. This movie is Chidambaram second directional venture after ‘Jan-E-Man’ which turned out to be huge success. The film’s cast include Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Ganapathy, Jean Paul Lal and many more promising actors. During this peaking era of Mollywood, Manjummel has undeniably contributed significantly towards it, embellishing it with a golden feather. The movie falls under survival thriller genre. The film has got positive responses all over and has collected more than 3.5 crores whole over India in the first day itself.

Manjummel Boys is inspired by a true event that occurred in the lives of a close-knit group of friends. The story revolves around 11 friends from a small village in Kochi, embarking on a trip to Kodaikanal, unaware of what awaits them there. While the storyline lacks novelty being based on real events, Chidambaram’s presentation of the theme is exceptionally captivating and commendable.

When it comes to acting, Soubin and Sreenath Bhasi delivers stellar perfomances. Initially, some characters may seem insignificant, yet each one displays outstanding performances. Khalid Rahman also makes a notable appearance in the film. Comparitively the second half is more engaging and thrilling than the first half, but the film as a whole is a pure visual treat.

As we mentioned earlier, its not the story but the quality making which makes the whole difference. Each and every technical aspect of the movie feels exceptionally flawless. The background score by Sushin Shyam has undoubtedly turned out to be perfect as usual. Also the incorporation of classic Tamil songs into specific scenes blended effortlessly with the overall atmosphere. Another standout contribution in Manjummel Boys is credited to Art Director Ajayan Chalissery. His exceptional work vividly portrayed the tangled interiors of Guna Caves in Kodaikanal, capturing even the smallest of details. Shjyu Khalid, the Director of Photography, has excellently captured the genuine charm of Kodaikanal, evident in every frame, portraying its beauty remarkably.

Even though the film’s main theme is survival, it depicts the remarkable bond among friends and the extents to which individuals are willing to go for the sake of friendship. Manjummel Boys is a true example of the popular saying “friends will be there for you, through every thick and thin”.

According to us, Manjummel Boys is an immaculate wonder in the survival thriller genre of Mollywood and has also set a new benchmark to this genre. It surely demands a theatre watch and has got several goosebumps scenes which sets the audience ablaze with excitement. As the ‘Manjummel Boys’ conveyed, friendship transcends mere words—it’s an emotion that’s not humane, but DIVINE!!

King of Kotha – A Mediocre Cliche drama! New Film Review 2023

King of Kotha (KOK) is a Malayalam film directed by Abhilash Joshy released on 24th August 2023. King of Kotha was the most awaited film of Dulquer Salman in 2023. Other than Dulquer, the film’s cast includes Gokul Suresh, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Anikha Surendran, Shabeer Kallarakal, Nyla Usha etc. Even though the film has got huge promotions in Pan-Indian level, from a personal perspective, we did not find the film to be an upstanding one.

King of Kotha describes the criminally active city of Kotha, including its past Kingpin Raju and current Kingpin Kannan Bhai. The movie features a lot of brutal violence, which might not be enjoyable to sensitive viewers. The movie comes under the mass-action crime drama genre. Drug abuse, another major social issue is also entitled in this movie. Though the film had small twists and turns, it did not had much effect on the movie. The cast also bestowed a tolerable performance.

The major positive of the movie is Jakes Bejoy’s BGM and Nimish Ravi’s Cinematography. We felt that the nature of each scenes were better portrayed by the background scores rather than the script. Nimish ravi has also shown marvellous camera skills in this movie, especially during the climax scenes. Dulquer’s screen presence was also remarkable. The art department were also fruitful in creating a 90’s crime – ridden city of Kotha.

Lack of a strong story and proper screenplay were the primary negatives in the movie. The dialogues, which are very much crucial in a film of this genre, failed to create any impact. Sometimes even the dialogue delivery were also disappointing. Unlike most of other debutant directors, Abhilash Joshy was unsuccessful in creating an impact as a director in the mollywood film industry. Editing is also not up to the mark.

King of Kotha, made clear that Dulquer is not suited for this type of gangster drama. Artificiality in dialouges were clear in each scene. Mass scenes also did not create a so called ‘goosebump’ effect in theatres. The characterization of both hero and villain were also abominable. There was nothing new in the story line and most scenes were predictable. The lengthy duration of the movie was another serious drawback. The unneccessary lagging of the story was seen clearly in both halves.

On the whole, King of Kotha is a movie that is more passable in terms of technical aspects than in terms of screenplay aspects. According to us, it does not demand a must watch theatre experience.

Jailer – An Alluring Tamil Mass Action Drama! New Movie Review 2023!

Jailer is a Tamil movie directed by Nelson released on 10th August 2023 starring Rajanikanth as the central character. The film marks a prominent comeback for the ‘superstar’ after quite a long time. Other major cast includes Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Yogi Babu etc. The film has also got stupendous cameos from Mohanlal, Shiv Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff.

Almost everyone has performed exceptionally well in this movie, but thalaivar Rajni himself clinched all the fame with phenomenal acting skills and exceptional screen presence. Jailer is undoubtedly one of the best in Rajnikanth’s career and is really a feast for the viewer’s eyes. Mohanlal and Shiv Rajkumar has also done their cameos exceptionally well and is an added advantage of the film.It is also the first time Mohanlal and Rajnikanth Vinayakan, who was casted in the negative role also proved to be amazing.

Rajnikanth plays the role of Muthuvel Pandian, a retired Jailer, who enjoys an ordinary domestic life with his family. His son is a cop, who goes missing during an investigation. The story moves on as the father goes behind the people responsible to avenge his son’s abduction. The movie portrays the unconditional love and care of a father towards his son. The movie has also got decent twists and turns. Nelson’s making is truly remarkable. The way he utilized all the actors is a huge plus to this film. Most of the comedy scenes were also quite satisfactory.

Another major positive of the movie is the Music Maestro, Anirudh. All the background scores are marvellous and suits perfectly for each scene. In our opinion, the song ‘Hukkum’ has proven to be the best among all the other tracks. The film has an excellent and engaging first half followed by a mediocre second half.

The only let down we felt about this movie is, the second half being only okayish as compared to the spectacular first half. The second half also fails to make the audience engaging as the first one and some may also feel a tiny lag in the second half. The film also lacks emotional depth. The scenes made for emotionally connecting the audience to the film resulted in vain.

According to us, Jailer is a pure mass action drama which delineates the Thalaivar swag very well. It is definitely a must watch movie in theatres and is indeed a paisa-vasool entertainer from Nelson.

Oppenheimer is a Hollywood movie directed by the legendary Christopher Nolan released on 21st July 2023. This film is a biopic of the prominent scientist, Robert J Oppenheimer. The film has got a significant cast, which includes Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Tom Conti, Matt Damon etc. Cillian Murphy plays the role of Robert Oppenheimer, and has absolutely nailed it. The film is getting exemplary reports from worldwide and has already collected a total gross of 90 million dollars from worldwide box-office. The movie also got a collection of 13.5 crores just from India. It is also reported that the film is widely accepted, chiefly by the youth audience in the age range of 18-34.

Oppenheimer, not only elucidates the literal nuclear chain reaction in atom, but also, the broader idea of chain reactions when immense power is held by individuals or nations. By digging into Robert Oppenheimer’s life and his role in creating the atomic bomb, the film delves into the ethical, moral, and political implications of such great power. It provokes thought on the consequences and responsibilities that come with wielding extraordinary influence, considering their impact on historical events and humanity.

The film depicts the two sides of the emotions that occurs to the Americans and Oppenheimer himself after America’s dual bombings in Japan. Most citizens are found to be extremely proud about their country and their dominance in the World War II, while Oppenheimer, the Father of Atom Bomb, finds himself buried in the guilt of being the reason for the murder of thousands of innocent people. The film also gives audience a basic idea behind an atomic bomb and its creator.

The main upper hand of the movie we feel is Christopher Nolan himself. Oppenheimer is truly a visual treat by Nolan. The nuclear fissions, explosions, etc. are exhibited in a splendid manner. The Direction, Screenplay and BGMs are top notch. Nolan had attempted to make this 3 hour long, Biopic-War-Drama engaging even though it has got lengthy dialogues. Lengthy dialogues may be not everyone’s cup of tea, but still it suits the overall slow-burning pace of the film quite well. The stellar performances from the actors has also boosted the overall film experience. Another major trademark of the movie was that CGI was not used during the entire film.

Main drawback that anyone would feel about the movie is definitely the long duration of 3 hours. Those who are not much into Historical dramas, will have the feeling of lag throughout the first half. Also the Quantum physics theories and other scientific speculations narrated in the movie will be bewildering for any specatators of the movie. But we find all these drawbacks necessary and acceptable for this kind of historical war movie.

According to us, Oppenheimer is the technically perfect movie of 2023. It is a high quality Biopic-war-drama which requires a theatre watch. It is undoubtedly another masterpiece of Christopher Nolan. We strongly recommend everyone to watch this epic in theatres itself!

53rd Kerala State Film Awards Announced – Nna Thaan Case Kodu wins 7 Awards!! Full List of winners

The 53rd edition of Kerala State Film awards were finally announced on 21st July 2023 after being postponed from 19th July 2023 due to the demise of Hon. ex. Kerala Cheif Minister Shri. Oommen Chandy. The awards were announced by Hon. Minister for Cultural Affairs, Shri. Saji Cherian. Mammootty and Vincy Aloshious bagged the awards for Best Actor and Actress for the movies Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam and Rekha respectively . Mammootty wins the prestigious Best Actor Award for the 6th time in his career. Mahesh Narayanan wins the Best Director award for the movie Ariyippu. Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Nan Pakal Nerath Mayakkam, wins the award for Best Movie. Kunchako Boban, who was in the race with Mammootty for Best Actor Award wins the Special Jury award for Nna Thaan Case Kodu.

During the announcement of Kerala State Film Awards, Minister Saji Cherian declared that out of 154 film submissions, 49 movies reached the final round for consideration for the awards. He highlighted that 19 of these submissions were from debutant filmmakers, indicating progress in the Malayalam film industry. Kerala State Chalachitra Academy Chairman Ranjith and Vice-chairman Premkumar were also present at the event.

The Kerala State Chalachitra Academy organized the Kerala State Film Awards in which a jury led by renowned Bengali film director and screenwriter, Goutam Ghose. The jury also included actor Gauthami, cinematographer Hari Nair, singer Jency Gregory, and sound designer D Yuvaraj. They were responsible for selecting the winners of the awards.

Kerala Crime Files (2023) – A Fascinating Investigation Drama!! First Ever Malayalam Web Series Review!

Kerala Crime Files (KCF) is a multi-lingual web series released on 23rd June on Disney+ Hotstar and directed by Ahammed Khabeer. It comes under the Crime-Drama genre. The series is composed of 6 episodes, each having a duration of about 30 minutes. The story revolves around the investigation of a local lodge murder in Eranakulam. The top cast of this series includes Lal and Aju Varghese who plays the role of two police officers who investigate this murder.

Swapna, a sex worker is found dead in a Lodging and Shiju, the one who was with her is missing from the scenario. Suspicion arouses and eventually Shiju is considered to have commited the homicide. Shiju is a very ordinary man from the lower social class , but the police fails to track him easily.

The 6 episodes actually detail the 6 days of crime investigation and its aftermaths. Instead of the usual plot twist and turns in a crime drama, this series delivers the story to viewers quite decently. Through simple and accoustmed storyline, It helps every viewer to understand different stages of a case investigation with ease. KCF is quite engaging, as it makes audience feel that they are also a part of this investigation.

Even though the plot is quite general, the entire making of this series and direction prove to be the best. Ahammed Khabeer has shown exceptional direction skills which can be seen specifically in each and every scene. Aju Varghese and Lal have also done their part very well. All the actors exhibited natural acting expertise and no scene was found to be unnatural. This series is an excellent display of Policemens’ life and how they manage both their families and duty efficiently. It also exhibits various emotions of happiness, confusion, stress etc. in the life of the cops admirably to the audience. KCF has also got a commendable production quality.

According to us, Kerala Crime Files is an ample crime drama which unfolds a way to be cognizant of day by day crime investigation of the police, making it slow paced upto an extent. It is a decent watchable drama and is quite worth watching.

Thallumaala comes under the genre of Action-Comedy. The film features Tovino Thomas, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Shine Tom Chacko, Lukman Avaran, Johny Antony. Khalid Rahman, truly accords us with a visual treat. Each and every fight scenes were striking and engaging. Even the title of the film also feels impeccable and indeed matching with the theme.

Thallumaala revolves around the life of a youngster Waseem (Tovino) and his companions. As we have seen in the trailer of this movie its actually a chain of fights , nothing more nothing less. Even though the film lacks to maintain a proper storyline Khalid’s way of presentation got the movie into a whole new level. The theatre experience is just mind blowing.

The technical team of this movie really deserves a great appaluse as it was technically perfect in every aspect. Cinematography by Jimshi Khalid and Editing by Nishad Yousuf also require a remarkable mention. Vishnu Vijay’s BGMs also facilitates the film very well. According to the collection reports the film has already claimed a gross of 4 CR+ from Kerala Box-office.

The major imperfections we feel in this movie is that a few songs were very much absurd and unclear. The movie goes forward in a non-linear manner. The editing of first half aroused some amount of confusions in viewers but all the bewilderments are resolved in the splendid second half. Acceptance of the film by all kinds of auidence is a qualm, but it will be welcomed by the energetic youngsters. The first half also delivers a slight lag feel to audience.

We also had a perception that the main BGM of the movie could have been used more efficiently. We also felt that Kalyani was unable to find her space in this movie as Tovino, Lukman and Shine has just stealed the show completely. After Minnal Murali, in this movie we witness Tovino, giving his full energy to this character.

As we are talking about a film full of fights, a major appreciation goes to the action choreography department headed by Supreme Sundar. The film has got about 7 extensive fight sequences and all of them were simply outstanding. Especially the theatre fight scene, is being considered as the finest one among all other action sequences. All the funky and diversified costumes used in the movie were also eye-catchy.

Overall we feel that Thallumaala is undoubtedly a Power packed action entertainer. It creates a festive mood in theatres. Thallumaala, A theatre watch? – Hell yeah!!!
